Diablo 4 Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items let players increase the level of equippable items like weapons or armor, as well trinkets above a certain threshold. They can be purchased at any item upgrade r NPC with the appropriate currency.

Sets

This effect is typically identified by a special symbol.
To upgrade a weapon or piece, you must go to the NPC [ArmorTo upgrade a piece of gear or weapon, you must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine. To upgrade a piece of gear, you will need 1 of 3 Power Dices. The first Power Dice is available from all monsters over 21 years old, whereas the second two can only be obtained from Giants and Bosses. Each upgrade will cost a different amount Erons and Minerals. The more powerful an item is, the higher the price.
Generally, weapons have greater value in trade when upgraded completely due to their increased base damage. However, there are some weapons that have a high trade value even when unupgraded due to their useful stats that are appropriate for certain designs (e.g. Whistan's Shield is a great shield for FB Sorcs. There are some sets that come with set bonuses that add effects when Link is wearing the full set. These bonuses are helpful in certain situations, such as exploring the Gerudo Desert and in dungeons. The Desert Voe set, for example, provides the Stealth Up effect that makes it easier to escape the attention of enemies.
Universal upgrades can be installed on any kind of equipment. These upgrades offer less rewards than those restricted by type, but are also much more accessible to acquire. Certain upgrades can be made into gems by a jeweler and can be used to upgrade any trinket slot. Other upgrade components are only slotted in weapon accessories and offer a small amount of bonus, but without causing more damage.
Requirements
Upgraded items are an important element of enhancing your character' strength and efficiency in battle. Upgrades can boost the stats of an item, or add a prefix, or suffix. The amount of stats that an item can upgrade depends on its rarity. Upgrades can be found in dungeons, raids, or bought from vendors. They can also be obtained in random drops or taken from other players.
There isn't a tenable game design solution to the problem of the "not worth it" feeling that some players experience when upgrading certain items. The game should show more information in its compare interface on the upgrade, for example: "X stats gained, or X stats loss." This isn't practical to implement due to the complexity of the process of comparing. There's simply not enough space to implement it in a proper manner within the UI.
An alternative solution is to write an application that checks the requirements for upgrading an item before allowing it to be upgraded. This approach is best for systems that have an extremely small number of upgradeable items and a few upgrade dependencies. A good example is a sword that can be upgraded from Sword +1 to Sword +2. A script could search for the Item Definition attribute of each upgrade, and then change the Item Status to "upgraded" to indicate that the upgrade was valid.
This method is more flexible, but it requires some extra code. It is not suited for complex systems.
Another option is to allow players to reforge their weapons and armor by applying certain improvements. These upgrades, called reforges by some, increase the stats of the item and reduce its cost. Reforges' power varies depending on the type, but the Orb of Transmutation or Orb of Embrace are the most powerful.
Costs
Upgrades can increase the physical strength of equipment as well as its spell power and health (for rings and armor) or add an additional bonus effect to it while it is in your inventory. You can make upgrade components or buy them from vendors. They can also be looted, dropped from other players, on the Trading Post, or as a reward. Upgrade components can be put into weapons, armor and trinkets. They can also be connected to gathering tools. The majority of upgrade components can be replaced using an Upgrade Extractor. The exception is glyphs, which can be salvaged by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Upgrades to an item can cost gold or Dilithium depending on the item type. In addition, some upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests needed to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum upgrade level. Upgrading to the highest upgrade level can be expensive particularly when you're upgrading gear for PvE.
Upgrades to items can alter the ammunition type of a weapon or damage die size change its operative or unwieldy weapon's property, or change its hand requirement. Some upgrades can change the appearance of a weapon.
While increasing stats is the main goal of item upgrades, you should consider the costs associated with upgrading an item prior to making a decision. You might prefer to use your gold to upgrade rare items, but don't spend it on ordinary or magic-tier items. Upgrades to these items can waste precious resources, and you'll soon find that rare gear outclasses them.
If you're unsure about whether or not an upgrade is worth it you can ask your fellow guild members for advice. It's possible to find better upgrades at lower cost. Make sure to upgrade your equipment as quickly as you can since upgrades will become more expensive over time. If you're unable to afford the cost of upgrading, it might be best to wait until you're able to. This will allow you to maximize your potential.
